Came across an amazing flickr stream featuring scans from someone’s personal collection of antique Japanese photos. Included are some of my favorites geishas, all hand painted photos from the early 1900’s.
If you’re into Japanese history or hilarious insane old men, you should check out this guy’s flickr profile: http://www.flickr.com/people/24443965@N08/
Many of these he found while working in Japan during WWII, and it’s clear the guy knows his stuff (and probably hasn’t been the same since the war). In case you aren’t convinced to check out his bio, read this excerpt ( in reference to his captions) and then see how you feel.
ALSO BE FOREWARNED THAT…..
(1) FOR HALF OF THE PHOTOS I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT,
(2) FOR THE OTHER HALF OF THE PHOTOS I MAKE A FOOL OUT OF MYSELF TRYING TO EXPLAIN THINGS THAT I DON’T HAVE THE SLIGHTEST CLUE ABOUT….KILLING TIME WITH SOME RIDICULOUS FICTION THAT SOME OF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TAR AND FEATHER ME FOR.
THIS SITUATION BENEFITS YOU, THE VIEWER BY ALLOWING YOU TO CLAIM THAT ANYTHING YOU DISAGREE WITH BELONGS TO THE SECOND CATEGORY — THUS GIVING YOU GOOD REASON TO ADD YOUR OWN ESTEEMED COMMENTS AND CORRECTIONS UNDER THE PHOTO.
HOWEVER…. ANY DUMB COMMENTS THAT MATCH OR EXCEED MY OWN IGNORANCE ARE SUBJECT TO GETTING MOCKED, SLAPPED, OR SPOOFED IN ONE OF MY CRIMINALLY VERBOSE COMEBACKS. IF MY RETORTS TO YOUR BLITHERING NONSENSE OFFEND YOU, YOU MAY CHALLENGE ME TO A DUEL.
IN SUCH A CASE, I WILL (1) IMMEDIATELY ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE, AND (2) AT THE TIME AND PLACE APPOINTED, I WILL DEFINITELY NOT SHOW UP !!!
By the way, I just burned Dale Carnegie’s book “How to Win Friends & Influence People“, after driving a railroad spike through it, and dousing it with gasoline.
Either way, this dude is the man. Enjoy!
